Most of the chemicals in competitor mouthwashes have nothing to do with the actual care of the oral cavity. RINSE uses a limited number of natural active ingredients, all which play a role in oral cavity care.
RINSE contains no harmful chemicals which can form an occlusive film on teeth. Without the occlusive film, teeth are able to re-mineralize by absorbing calcium and other minerals naturally found in saliva. This film is often produced as a result of chemicals found in competitor mouth washes.
Additionally, RINSE contains organic ingredients which actively kill the bacteria which cause cavities. The jury is really out on the overall benefit of fluoride versus its known risks. In our quest to minimize potential risks RINSE uses only organic ingredients in our products. No harmful manmade chemicals with dubious side effects and unknown oral care benefits.
Our organic essential oils provide nourishment and anti-inflammatory benefits to gum tissues. The essential oils along with organic xylitol kill the bacteria which cause cavities. Additionally RINSE does not produce an occlusive film on tooth surfaces – unlike the chemicals in competitor mouth washes which do cause an occlusive film on teeth. Without an occlusive film, tooth material is able to re-mineralize – that is absorb minerals naturally found in saliva which make teeth strong.
All essential oils have similar properties related to being effective antimicrobials. Certain essential oils are known with specific properties. For example, ability to penetrate into deep tissue areas, being potent anti-inflammatories, providing nourishment and healing to damaged tissues. We created each RINSE product with a specific oral care need in mind and using a specific essential oil blend to provide the benefit. With taste in mind, working with our master chef the individual products are blended in a specific order of ingredients. The result is a lasting fresh natural taste. Not a harsh chemical taste associated with competitor mouth washes.
An Essential Oil is the concentrated oil component derived from plants. The term essential refers to the fact that the concentrated oil maintains the “essence” (fragrance) of the plant itself. The oils themselves are called volatile oils which means they turn into a vapor when subjected to steam or other processes. As the steam distillate is cooled, the oil component (essential oil) separates from the water component into a highly concentrated pure oil product.
Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar, very similar to what we know as sugar. Bacteria including those which are normally found in the oral cavity use sugar as an energy source (think grow –not just maintain their existence). If xylitol is present in the oral cavity, these bacteria ingest xylitol, mistaking it for sugar. However, bacteria are unable to convert xylitol to the energy source it needs to survive. Result: the bacteria die. In the oral cavity these bacteria are the ones which produce acids as by products. It is these acids which erode the surface of tooth material causing cavities.
The answer to both question relates to essential oil. It is widely documented that essential oils will react with plastic. Over time this can cause a leaching of dissolved plastic into whatever is contained in the plastic container. Secondly essential oils are degraded by continued exposure to light (especially sunlight).
Many of the chemicals in other mouth rinses contain warnings regarding potential side effects such as severe allergic effects, possible carcinogenic properties, detrimental physical effects on the human body and the like. Competitor mouth rinses contain a warning which states to contact a poison control center if you accidentally swallow an amount more than the normal amount recommended in their oral care regimen. What we don’t know is the long-term effects of using these products once or twice daily over the course of several decades. Keep in mind the oral cavity tissues are very porous and readily absorb materials which come in contact with it. These chemicals have been suspended in solution which makes them very easy to be absorbed.
We recommend using RINSE a minimum of two times a day as part of a normal twice a day morning and at bedtime oral care hygiene routine. Using RINSE more than two times a day is not harmful since all of our ingredients are natural and organic. If you have the need and opportunity to use RINSE during the day go for it and enjoy the additional experience.
We recommend using RINSE for at least a minute as part of your normal daily oral hygiene regimen. You can certainly use RINSE for more than a minute. All our ingredients are natural and organic so there is no risk of harmful effects with prolonged exposure. In fact, the longer the exposure the better in our opinion. This allows our organic essential oil blend to remain in contact with oral mucosal surfaces to nourish and heal damaged oral tissues. It also provides extra time for organic xylitol to be absorbed by those harmful acid producing bacteria. You will even want to use RINSE for more than a minute. You won’t feel that harsh chemical burn associated with other mouth washes.
RINSE contains a proprietary blend of Essential Oils. Specific Essential Oils are known for their ability to penetrate deep into oral tissues (gums). This deep penetration gets the essential oils into the deep recesses of the gums. That is where anaerobic bacteria reside. These bacteria produce sulfites as metabolic waste products. It is theses sulfites which creates bad breath odor. Other Essential Oils are known to have anti-inflammatory properties. This can be very beneficial to injured gums and help speed their repair. If the gums themselves are infected, the antimicrobial effects of Essential Oils can help kill the bacteria and heal the gums.
